Our K12 alternative education center is accredited by the National Private Schools Accreditation Group, Inc. (NPSAG). Average class size is 8 to 10 students per teacher allowing each student to receive personal attention. Our curriculum is geared to small groups and includes many hands-on activities.
H.E.L.P. Miami uses a specific study method that teaches our students how to study. We are not interested in instructing our students so they can “pass a test.” We want our students to understand and USE what they learn. (See “What is Study TechnologyTM”.)
We follow the public school calendar for holidays, teacher work days and holidays. School hours of operation are from 9:00am to 2:30pm daily. Aftercare is available at additional cost. (See “Services & Prices”.)
Students are given a full battery of academic tests (TerraNova) three times per year, with report cards issued on a quarterly basis.
We accept the McKay Scholarship and the StepUp for Students.
Homework and Attendance Policy:
Middle and high school students will have homework every day. That said, most assignments can be completed under 45 minutes, compared to other schools that give over three hours of homework a day beginning in Kindergarten. (High school students may have 12 hours of homework a day, with honors students doing more.) That our classes are small and we have a lighter homework load does not mean that the work is not important. Our day is already shorter than most schools so homework is a must in order to pass into the next grade.
All homework assignments are to be neat, complete and turned in on time. Work that is too sloppy to be easily graded, work that is incomplete or late will not be counted as not done. Students who fail to turn in homework a total of 5 times (for any subject) will be dismissed from school. Refunds will not be issued if your child is dismissed, even if it occurs in the first few weeks of school.
Attending school is not a suggestion, it is in fact, the law. All enrolled students are expected to arrive to school promptly and attend classes per the school schedule. Arriving late or missing school makes it nearly impossible to get the student through their subjects and also disrupts the group. Students will be dismissed if they are late a total of 10 days or accumulate 10 unexcused absences.
School enrollment is based on the following:
• New students must be interviewed and accepted by the school principal prior to enrollment.
• Parents/guardians must watch in full the documentary “Dead Wrong” prior to enrollment. (Copies of the DVD are available in English and Spanish at
H.E.L.P. Miami.) Click here to watch “Dead Wrong” now.
• The school needs a copy of the birth certificate, current physical examination and current proof of immunizations (or exemption form).
• All enrollment forms must be filled out in full.
• School fees (Registration, Testing, Materials and first month’s tuition) are due prior to the student attending class.
• All items on supply list need to accompany student on the first day of class.
Alternative education center enrollment is limited to 92 students. Call 305-752-4003 to schedule an appointment today.
